 We are pleased to announce
that FTVentures has
committed $10 million to PowerShares Capital Management LLC,
an asset management firm specializing in the development and
management of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). FTVentures is the first
institutional investor in the company. The financing will
enable PowerShares, headquartered in Wheaton, Illinois, to
expand its unique series of funds, its national and
international distribution strategy and its investment
management team in a rapidly growing market that is projected
to reach over a trillion dollars by 2010.* Since introducing
its first fund in May 2003, PowerShares’ assets under
management have grown to over $500 million.
PowerShares' funds are based on enhanced indexes,
which are designed to identify companies that have a potential
for fundamentally strong performance or provide exposure to
selected markets or industry sectors that are believed to
offer growth opportunities. The firm's first two funds under
management, Dynamic Market Portfolio (AMEX: PWC) and Dynamic
OTC Portfolio (AMEX: PWO), are based on the American Stock
Exchange's Intellidex indexes, which utilize rules-based
quantitative analysis to select a portfolio of securities that
meet certain criteria intended to indicate growth potential.
The company has also recently introduced a fund that is based
on the Mergent Dividend Achievers™ 50 Index (AMEX: PEY) and a
China fund that
tracks the USX China Index (AMEX: PGJ). PowerShares is one of
only seven firms that develops and manages ETFs today. The
company is planning on launching several more funds during the
next 12 months, including a set of ETFs that are based on
indexes built by Zacks and ValueLine.
